Why is Good Time Management Important?

Good time management skills can have a huge positive impact on your life, and here’s why…

Prioritisation

Successful time management can help you prioritise tasks so that you get things done on time. A good place to start is organising tasks in order of importance so that you can decide which things are more pressing right now.

This can help you improve your productivity, as it allows you to focus on what’s important and to methodically check off tasks one by one, rather than trying to get everything done all at once and getting nowhere as a result.

Prioritisation can help you reduce distractions and spending lots of time on minor tasks which aren’t all that important. The very process of prioritisation can also help you decide which goals mean the most to you and what things are not as essential, allowing you to step back and see the bigger picture!

Stress Reduction

Good time management can massively reduce any feelings of stress and being overwhelmed.

A lot of the time, when we look at everything we need to get done, it seems almost impossible to achieve, which often can lead to procrastination as we feel too overwhelmed to even get started!

However, by breaking things down into smaller, more manageable chunks, it can make it seem much more doable. Assigning a time frame to each of your tasks really helps with this breaking down, and makes it easier to stick to the process of completing each task and getting everything done on time.

Productivity

Whilst a certain level of multitasking is sometimes required in our lives, juggling all of your tasks at once, switching from one thing to another, can prevent you from getting into the swing of things.

Giving your full attention to one task at a time, completing it in full from start to finish, allows you to focus on it fully. Whereas if you keep stopping and starting, you constantly have to start over and reorient yourself with the initial task at hand.

Improved Work-Life Balance

Organising your time properly allows you to actually set apart time in your schedule just for you. Whether it’s time for exercise, social events, or just a bit of ‘you’ time, you’re more likely to take this time for yourself if you set aside space in your calendar for it.

Recognise Where Changes Need to be Made

The process of time management may illuminate some changes that need to be made. Do you need to take on less? Do you need to delegate some of these tasks to other people?

If you have far too many pressing tasks and no time to address them, you need to ask yourself whether you have too much on your plate.
